OUR PROCESS

Flower preservation process - How does it work?

A guide for Australian brides.

Finished resin keepsake Fresh wedding bouquet

Your flowers are more than just blooms — they represent one of the most meaningful moments of your life. Whether they are from your wedding day, an anniversary, a memorial, or a special celebration, they deserve to be cherished long after the occasion has passed.

At The Bloom Lab, we carefully preserve your flowers in resin, transforming them into timeless keepsakes that can be treasured for years to come.

Every piece is handcrafted and created with meticulous attention to detail, making floral preservation a lengthy but rewarding process.

Our standard turnaround time is approximately 7–8 months. However, due to weather fluctuations, resin curing conditions, flower complexity, and seasonal demand, this timeframe may occasionally be extended. Our priority is always creating a beautiful, high-quality piece that will stand the test of time.

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what happens once your flowers begin their journey with us.

1. Consultation & Booking

Every preservation journey begins with a conversation.

Once you submit an enquiry, we'll discuss your event date, preferred keepsakes, and the flowers you'd like preserved. This allows us to recommend pieces that best suit your bouquet while ensuring we have availability to accommodate your order.

Once your booking is confirmed and your deposit is received, your date is secured in our preservation calendar.

Why this step is important: Early booking ensures your flowers have a reserved place in our studio and allows us to prepare for their arrival.

2. Sending or Delivering Your Flowers

After your special day, your flowers make their way to The Bloom Lab.

Flowers can be:

● Delivered directly to our Sydney studio - Based in Casula NSW

● Sent via Express Post

● Arranged same day courier (NSW only)

We provide detailed flower care and shipping instructions to help ensure your blooms arrive in the best possible condition.

The fresher the flowers arrive, the better the preservation outcome.

3. Flower Assessment & Drying

Once your flowers arrive, we carefully assess every stem.

Each flower variety behaves differently during preservation, so we determine the most suitable drying method based on the flower type, condition, and intended design.

The flowers are then placed into our specialised drying process.

This is one of the most critical stages of preservation, as it helps maintain the shape, colour, and beauty of your flowers.

4. Flower Sorting & Preparation

After drying, every flower is individually inspected and prepared for design. We carefully sort your blooms according to:

  • Size

  • Colour

  • Shape

  • Condition

Flowers are then cleaned, sealed, and prepared for the resin process.

This stage allows us to identify the most beautiful blooms and create the best possible composition for your keepsakes.

5. Design Approval for Main Pieces

This is often the most exciting stage for our clients.

For larger statement pieces such as hexagons, arches, rectangles, and display blocks, we create a custom floral layout using your preserved flowers.

A design preview is then sent to you for approval before resin work begins.

This ensures your piece reflects your vision while allowing us to showcase your flowers in the most beautiful way possible.

6. The Resin Pouring Process

Once the design is approved, the resin casting process begins.

Contrary to what many people expect, resin pieces are not created in a single pour. Most pieces require multiple carefully controlled layers to achieve crystal-clear results while safely encapsulating the flowers.

Depending on the size and complexity of the design, a piece may require numerous pours over several days.

Patience is key. Rushing resin can compromise clarity, durability, and the overall quality of the final keepsake.

7. Finishing: Coating & Polishing

Once the resin has fully cured, each piece is removed from its mould and hand-finished. This process includes:

  • Sanding

  • Edge refinement

  • Surface correction

  • Polishing

Each keepsake is carefully inspected to ensure it meets our quality standards. This is where your piece develops its signature glass-like finish and beautiful shine.

8. Final Curing

Even after polishing, your keepsake still needs time to fully stabilise.

The pieces remain in our studio for additional curing to ensure the resin reaches maximum hardness and durability before leaving our care. This process takes 2 weeks.

Weather conditions, particularly temperature and humidity, can affect curing times, which is one of the reasons our turnaround period may occasionally extend beyond the standard estimate.

We never rush this stage, as it plays a vital role in the longevity of your keepsake.

9. Packing & Sending Your Flowers Home

The final step is one of our favourites.

Once your keepsakes pass their final quality inspection, they are carefully packaged and prepared for collection or shipping.

Every order is packed with the same level of care that has gone into preserving your flowers from the very beginning.

The moment your keepsake arrives home is when your flowers begin their next chapter — transformed from fresh blooms into a lasting piece of your story.

More Than Flower Preservation

At The Bloom Lab, we believe flowers deserve more than a few days of beauty.

Every bouquet tells a story, and every keepsake we create is designed to honour the memories, emotions, and moments attached to it. From the day your flowers arrive at our studio to the day they return home, every step is completed with care, patience, and attention to detail.

Because some flowers are simply too special to throw away.

Estimated turnaround time: 7–8 months

Please note that turnaround times may be extended due to weather fluctuations, resin curing conditions, flower complexity, and periods of high demand.
